T. Foster & Co. of Yardley, PA received word from the prestigious AGTA that the judging had been completed and that the entry submitted by T. Foster & Co. of a 22 carat fancy orange sapphire ring with diamonds had won a “Spectrum Award!” With cheers all around, the staff celebrated a moment that will always be remembered, knowing well that a Spectrum award gives a brand and a designer worldwide recognition.

The AGTA Spectrum Awards are considered the most respected and prestigious creative award for the design industry. Launched in 1984, the Spectrum Awards honor, recognize, and promote designers whose work utilizes natural colored gems and pearls in finished fine jewelry. The award is a true contest of workmanship, creativity, and innovation. Winners set the standard for the entire industry. Quoting directly from the AGTA website “The Spectrum Awards is considered the finest jewelry and gemstone competition in the world.”

“This is such an incredible honor, it’s equivalent to the movie industry’s Oscars and we feel on top of the world right now! After more then 30 years designing and manufacturing fine jewelry it really is a nice feeling to be recognized by our peers,” said owner, Tim Foster, “The entry was an incredible orange sapphire ring accented with diamonds and by all measure was a rare and delightful color – we called it a Mandarin Sapphire. We wanted above all to share this rare find with the industry and to win this award is a delightful bonus. I expect that when this award winning piece tours the world, many gemstone dealers, jewelers, and designers will be fascinated with the gem. The design contained what we called a “surprise” which was inspired by the client that commissioned the ring. A fancy shaped diamond was placed inside the “gallery” of the ring, which is to say under the center sapphire. The gallery was also made up of fine wires that twisted on the way up from the finger and held in place 6 very fine pear shape diamonds. I suspect the judges got a little tickle out of the surprise - it is unexpected and no doubt would elicit a comment every time. The completely handmade ring was perfection in every way and this would also be a consideration to the judges”

The award is in the category of “daily business wear” and took 2nd place out of entries from around the world.

The American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) is one of the world’s most important jewelry and gemstone organization with a large membership of dealers, retailers, designers and manufacturers. All members must adhere to a strict code of ethics and bylaws. T. Foster & Co. is an active member.
